Safety

Everyone deserves to live in a safe community. We can make District 10 safer by:

Increased Economic Opportunity

We need small business and career opportunities to support our families, and I have a plan to ensure we get the opportunities that are promised to us year after year.

  • We must pass a law that demands that San Franciscans are hired first on public projects and I understand the legal nuance of incentivizing private businesses to do the same.
  • We must provide vocational training for more than construction jobs and improve access to those trainings.
  • Streamline the red tape for opening small businesses and work to provide small businesses tax breaks for hiring local youth.
  • Provide greater security and protections for business owners who lease space.
  • Ensure the development of Pier 70 includes the greater use of the largest dry dock on the west coast and expands ship repair services.

These things will decrease the economic disparity in San Francisco District 10.

Environmental

There is no bright future for District 10 without environmentally sustainable development.

  • We can not allow developers to destroy our existing parkland so they can make a quick buck selling waterfront condos.
  • We have to increase our efforts to maintain existing parkland.
  • We must make sure future developments have hubs of community services, shopping and health services so that car use is reduced.
  • I plan to utilize new technologies to green our city’s municipal waste water treatment plant.

When we focus on the sustainability of our environment we all benefit together.

Transportation

Public transportation serves as a blood line for many people in San Francisco District 10.

  • We need an honest assessment of transportation needs and turn the dialogue of transit equalization into real policy that benefits San Francisco District 10 residents.
  • I will not support a Muni budget that cuts services and increases fares so that people who need it most can’t afford it or can’t get to a bus line.
  • I will encourage businesses and new housing developments to promote ride sharing programs and shuttle services for their employees and residents.
  • I will support greater frequency of the T line.
  • We should establish bike lanes along parallel streets to the 3rd street corridor in a way that is both safe and convenient.

This way public transportation gets us where we need to go, in a timely fashion and in an environmentally safe manner.

Health Care

We have a moral obligation to care for those who are most vulnerable.

  • We can improve the quality of life of our seniors and disabled by supporting the Community Living Fund and increase funding.
  • We can improve our coordination of services by centralizing our intake services.
  • We can improve service quality by having a member of the Board of Supervisors on the Long Term Care Coordinating Council.
  • I won’t undermine access to healthcare by cutting healthcare jobs and services.

This way healthcare is a for the people industry and not for profit.
